What should I pack for my dog's overnight boarding stay?

The essentials checklist

Their normal food, measured out or with the scoop you use, because switching food mid-stay upsets tummies. Any medication with written instructions and the timing your vet set. A bed or blanket that smells like home. A leash and harness or collar with an ID tag. Vaccination records, or a photo of them on your phone. Your vet's phone number and an emergency contact who can make decisions if Ellen cannot reach you.

Pack a day or two of extra food in case your return is delayed. If your dog eats raw or needs food kept cold, mention it at booking so there is fridge space ready.

Nice-to-haves that help dogs settle

A favourite toy or chew, and a worn, unwashed t-shirt of yours, can make a big difference for a dog's first stay away from home. A long-lasting chew for the first evening gives them something to do while the house goes quiet. If your dog is crate-trained and sleeps best in a crate, bring it along; Ellen is happy to set it up in a calm corner.

What you can leave at home

Bowls, fresh water, poo bags, towels for wet-weather days and plenty of company are all provided. You do not need to pack treats unless your dog has allergies, and there is no need for a stack of toys: one or two familiar ones are better than a bag full.

Label everything with your dog's name, hand it over at drop-off, and Ellen will run through the list with you so nothing is missed. If you forget something, she is close to Orillia and Barrie and can usually sort it out.
